    Jacobite wool jacket

    Hi Everybody

While back in New Zealand several years ago I was lucky to spend some time with another kilt fan in Oamaru who is into the Jacobite period. He lent me some of the clothing that is shown in the attached photos. I have recently ordered a nice trad wool 1770s waistcoat from Jas Townsend & son in the USA in Navy and as I am unable to find anyone here in Japan to make a nice tartan Jacobite period Jacket / coat I want to purchase one. If anyone here at X Marks can recommend a shop , that has a suitable wool jacket that would be most helpful. Maybe even Jas Townsend & son has something suitable. So if any of you are into Jacobite period re enacting maybe you can offer me some advice. I already have found some shirts and will order some buckled shoes from fugawee.com in the near future.

I'd recommend Missy Clark, at Barkertown Sutlers (www.barkertownsutlers.com). She does excellent work, and is very familiar with the time period you're interested in. I have one of her Highland Jackets, and I can highly recommend her work. Not the cheapest around, but worth the money.

I would recommend Lady Chrystel http://www.lady-chrystel-kilts.com/s...d-doublet.html or Evelyn Spence kiltmaker http://www.evelynspence.co.uk/# both are officially recognised by the Jacobite society a Circle of Gentlemen.

I may be mistaken but I feel I remember the tartan jacket from an Alfs wedding in Christchurch a few years ago. Lovely bit of gear.

    Hi Machaggisnz

I used to be a member of Alfs Army in Oamaru NZ and yes you have most likely seen Michael O'Brien ex Alf wearing one of his Jackets, that's him pictured in my photos

Aha, so that's Michael the book binder. I've met him a few times over the years at Alfs and KAOS events but never caught his name and every time I stop in to say g'day when I'm travelling with his buddy's he's out of the shop. That puts two and two together.
