Seven days without a THCD post makes one weak : tartan jackets, anyone?
Those who have been subject to my posts before know the soft spot in my heart (as opposed to the soft spot on my head) reserved for tartan doublets and jackets. Can we talk about them some more? And yes, I know this thread mentions JACKETS, but I want advice and opinions about those jackets in the context of THCD, traditionally made kilts, and How to wear them. And I want pictures, lots of pictures. Recently, there has been a thread in one of the other forum sections- maybe historical?- about a historical tartan doublet. That garment, ancient and honorable though it certainly is, can't be called contemporary or traditional as we use those terms here.
So what jackets ARE contemporary and traditional, i.e., currently worn in a non-costume, non-iconoclastic, fashion? We have the MacGregor's wedding picture. We have JSFMacL's tartan doublet. We have Alan Cumming's tartan suit, (which is, ahem ...worn in a slightly iconoclastic way) What else? Please send yr photos.
I am working my way back to owning just two kilts- a Black Watch and a Royal Stewart. I also have an Ancient Hunting Stewart that was retrofitted from a woman's kilted skirt. I recently acquired a Stewart Hunting (not ancient or weathered) Saxon jacket that I have considered converting. I have several Black Watch jackets that I am also considering converting. If I go to the trouble of chopping the Stewart Hunting jacket, I will probably look for a matching SH Modern kilt.
But I am not one of those blessed with vision. I need to see these things, rather than imagining them.
Does anyone have a picture of a Black Watch or Stewart Hunting jacket worn with a kilt? What about a Royal Stewart doublet and kilt? Does it come with dark glasses, or is it just very very cool?
And what do we think about THIS jacket as a potential candidate for alteration? If it really is bespoke, one assumes it could be ordered in a very short body length...

Oh, and finally, I am pretty sure the Royal Stewart would not work for daywear, but what say ye about Stewart Hunting or Black Watch jacket and kilt for non-formal occasions? If one were to bespeak a tartan jacket, would there be any point in making it daytime-friendly, or should we call it what it is and add black facings, etc suitable only for night-time?

The description stated 70 to 80% wool, 20 to 30% poly material. The site does link to tailors, so maybe ordering your kilt jacket could be directed through them also. I think the lapel slit is too long but that is a personal choice as I do like the diagonal over the horizontal slit for my boutonniere. Let's see what other opinions come forth.

I'm sure that the jacket might be ordered in a kilt-appropriate length, but I would worry that the tailors might not fully understand the need for a short length, particularly when one considers CDNSushi's Hong Kong experience. IF they have made jackets for kilts before, you might be in luck. If not, well, you're the guinea pig for the rest of us.
Should you order, I'd suggest giving them a specific, measured length and provide pictures of a well-fitted kilt jacket to illustrate the cutaway for the sporran.
A personal peccadillo, I'd opt for a horizontal slit for the boutonniere and a notch lapel, followed by the shawl collar, then the peaked lapel. YMMV.
Do keep us posted.

Oh, I doubt I'll order that jacket, though it did look interesting- and I doubt I'll waste much more time with this thread, since the mods don't seem to understand that you can talk about kilts and kilt accessories without wanting to do so in the accessories forum. This is my second time having a "traditional" thread moved because it had "jacket" in the title. And it is the second time I have been irked to see a reasonable discussion about Traditional Kilts and what you wear with them moved because it dared to mention something other than kilts.
Consider me sufficiently unamused

I am simply going by your own description - First sentence of your second paragraph.
"So what jackets ARE contemporary and traditional,"
The Traditionally made kilt forum section is for just what it says. For Kilts made in the traditional manner. (contrary to what some would like, the Traditionally made kilt section is not the TCHD section.)
As your thread is about jackets, which are an accessory to a kilt, traditional and contemporary, it does not fit in any of the kilt style forum sections. What is left is either General Kilt Talk or, more properly, The Kilt Accessory forum section.

Lovely, thanks, regardless of the stupidity of having to post it in Accessories. Yours is a great example of TRADITIONAL kiltwearing.
