    Bright Hose for Halloween

Impressed by all of the hose dyeing threads on XMTS, I finally decided to take a chance and dye a pair of cream colored hose that I haven't worn in years. My intent is replicate Nathan's great hose experiment here:

    Anyway...

I bought two packages of Golden Yellow (I only used one box). I followed the directions for the wool by adding a cup of vinegar and about a teaspoon of salt.

Beginning to think that I would only wear these for Halloween.

They would go well with a Buchanan or a "Loud Mcleod"

I like the shade after the first wash. Looks like a dark mustard.

Thanks, Nathan! That is the color I was aiming for.

You need to set the dye with vinegar.

Now if you had spilled the dye on accidentally, it would never come out, lol.

I always expected to lose 30% of the original color after my first washing when I dyed things in the past. I was aiming for the aged look however. I didn't find a good (natural so not to destroy the fabric integrity) color-fasting agent to add to the dying process. Now may be the time to explore that, as I have time. I'll get back to you and the crew. I want to add, that the new look of your hose is more "pulp" than "rind of pumpkin" though. Still a cool look.
