    Portrait

Hi, here's a portrait that was shot at the weekend.
I'd wanted to send a nice kilted picture to my family so at first I asked at some camera shops about how much it would cost.
To get an A4-sized framed photo would be around $150 I was told.

So instead I borrowed a friends camera and did it at home-cost: about $15 for frame and a pack of good-quality photo paper. Being a bit thrifty every now-and-then doesn't hurt

Congratulations, Andy. This is very well done, indeed. It helps that you cut such a fine insouciant figure in the kilt and that your traditional kit is so well thought out and put together. The composition and perspective of the shot is very effective and I especially like your use of the fringed Tartan on the wall behind you. In the best possible way, it is all very evocative of the old paintings of the various Clans from the 1920's/30's. Even the contrast, colour and pattern of the beautiful floor boards adds a certain painterly flair to the overall impact of the work.

Andy, I think you have achieved perfection with this portrait. However, it strikes me that should you wish to gild the lily, you could superimpose your Clan Crest in the lower right quadrant. Looking at it again though, the crest might only serve to upset the beautiful balance you have already achieved.

Nice pic! Great outfit. You're an inspiration to us all.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

You look great, Andy, but for me from a photographic point of view the lighting could have done with a diffuser, it is very harsh, and you lack a top light for the hair. However I'm just being picky, I 'm sure your folks will love it.
