Police have begun a murder inquiry following the death of a 60-year-old man at his home in Prestwick. The death of Arthur Green, whose body was found by a family member on the morning of 20 November, was initially treated as unexplained.
Following a post-mortem examination, police now believe he was the victim of an attack.
Mr Green was last seen alive at around 22:30 on 19 November.
Police and ambulance services attended shortly after Mr Green's body was found at around 08:10 on 20 November.
Det Insp Alan McAlpine of the Major Investigation Team said: "A murder inquiry has been launched into the death of Arthur Green.
"Extensive enquiries are ongoing in relation to this incident and officers are continuing to study CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on whoever is responsible for this attack.
"I would like to remind those living in the community that incidents of this nature are extremely rare. As this is now a major inquiry, additional patrols will be deployed in the area.
"If anyone was close to the Pleasantfield Road area of Prestwick on the evening Wednesday 19, or the morning on Thursday 20 October we would ask that you come forward with any information."
Det Insp McAlpine appealed for any witnesses to contact police and said anonymity could be maintained by contacting Crimestoppers.

The gentleman appears at first glance to be immacutely dressed in the photo but the thing which I just can't understand is that the kilt appears to be pleated at the front and the kilt pin appears to be worn to the left rather than right side of the front apron. Or am I missing something?

Alex, you appear to be absolutely right, except that the kilt pin does not appear to be on the apron at all but on the pleats. The kilt also appears to have a very short fell and is not high waisted, so probably an import. The tie on top of that style collar is, to me, another unusual feature, as is the sporran chain/strap positioning and the fly plaid and broach position.

This is a rather serious offence. Do you think he was attacked by the kilt police?

1. I hope they catch the thugs that did the dirty deed (if that be the case.) 2. I hope the family or authorities use a more flattering (and correctly kilted) photo of Mr. Green. As Mr. Green and I are near the same age, I rely on the rabble aid to make sure I don't err to far in my kilting choices.

Well, he's only three years older than me, but he looks older than my dad. That sounds harsh, but what I really mean is he does not look too healthy for his age, so there may be something to your theory.

He does indeed look very frail, and he is leaning on the stick - his shoulder is raised on that side making the side of the jacket kick out.
