    What's this jacket?

So what is the jacket in this ebay posting? I've not seen construction like this before. Is it a hybrid of some kind? A homemade job? (BTW, I am not affiliated with the seller, nor am I interested in purchasing; I've just not seen anything like this and am genuinely puzzled by the construction.)

Has the look of a military Mess jacket. Wonder if it was a theatre piece?

It's a mess alright, but I don't know about Mess Jacket.

It has the look of a Saxon jacket that has been remade, although it does have the rope epaulettes and interior belt hooks of a Highland jacket.

Either way, I'm not a fan.

Certainly has the look of "recrafted...something". The theater question looms with high probability in my mind. But there is always the question of Homespun out of an original design, (ie the convoluted description of the owner)

I dunno... it looks to me like it might have been made like that, a civilian Highland evening dress jacket.

Thing is, there used to be a much wider variety in jackets than recently.

It doesn't look like any Scottish regimental Mess Dress jacket I've seen.
