Over the top or just enough?
In our effort to showcase the quality of our products, we've started loading close up shots in banner form to our category pages. Not ALL of the category pages have them yet, but here are some examples:

What do you guys think? Too much? Just right?

A little too in-your-face for my taste, maybe back away from the object just a little more?

Personally, I like it. On my old website, I had done something similar. The photos chosen above were nice and I like how they look.

I think it makes your items very attractive and shows detail. As long as it does not interfere with navigating the website, it is a nice idea.

Looks great to me; the clarity of the photos is attractive.

Now I can't remember what those pages looked like before, and I've been browsing your site all week!
Anyway, without a mental comparison, I don't see anything wrong with them. Though the shoe one did seem a little... I'm not sure how to describe it. It didn't have the same effect on me as the other pages did. Not sure exactly what it is about it, whether the angle, the closeness, or what.

Having done a bit of web design myself, I like it. It gives a unique perspective on some of the detailing of your products and draws the eye into the page.

Rocky,
I like the way everything looks. Not an artist here, as a customer, I like it.

Aye... Fine by me as well, but don't change just for the sake of change. Living on the bleeding edge of the techno world can be frustrating for some of your less techno users. If the changes make things easier, go for it.
