    Banners

    Hank,

What's the deal with the Brain tumor and medical organization banners at the top of the forum index?

I know not all of us are stable, but that's a bit of an early prognosis.

Ever so often, the top banner changes to an advert when you change sreens. One was for a Brain tumor site, another for United Way, and a third for a medical product company.

No. What happens is the Google Ads choose what they display based on the site content. Sometimes the isnt an ad and so it just posts a generic one. That is most likely what happened.

I get none of that since I installed the firewall.

I have a killer firewall, and scan for adaware every couple of days. All clear there, I have only seen these banners twice, but they were both within the same hour a few days ago.

I saw the UNICEF one today Colin. Hank's right, it's the Google ads, and the way they run. I'm not sure if the ads run the same way their email does, but it scans text for keywords, and posts the ads accordingly. Like Hank said, every now and then it just throws in the generic ad.

Browsers, firewalls, and data miners have nothing to do with it. It's good to take precautions with all of those things, but they aren't what's affecting the weird banners.
