    Latest DIY mink dress sporran

My latest sporran. Dyed mink and black leather back with hand made brass cantle (nickel plated). Inside is red suede.

Brilliant! Great job on the cantle, how difficult was that to make?

The cantle is a fair amount of work. The outside was half of a brass lamp base cut to shape with 1/4" x 1/2" brass hinge bars soldered to it. The spring latch is a brass tube and finish washer soldered to guide the pull. The back is one piece of 1/16" thick brass sheet cut and bent to shape. A piece of bar is soldered and drilled for the spring catch. I had the front piece nickel plated along with the finials.

Very clean, simple design. Nothing to hide the beautiful execution of the metal work.

Yes, "a fair amount of work." But well worth the effort, very nice.

Nice work. Did you make this, commission this, or simply purchase it somewhere?

    Thanks all.
@ Orionson, I made both, cantle and bag. I made this sporran to be auctioned at our Clan Donnachaidh AGM/dinner later this month. I have made an identical cantle for a sporran that I am making for my stepson. pictures will follow when that is done.
