    Too "Matchy-Matchy"?

I was one of the lucky ones who picked up a cheap MOD Cantle last year, and I originally made a chocolate suede bag (which I thought would look "aged" fairly quickly, but unfortunately looked "ruined" instead).
I was wearing this with my Manx Blue kilt, but have recently gotten a Manx Hunting kilt, and subsequently made a Navy Blue bag for the cantle. My question for the traditionally-minded of you, is it too much blue if I wear it with my Manx Blue kilt, or does it still look different enough in colour to be "acceptable"? I'm not looking for "if you like it, wear it" comments, just wondering what the traditionalists amongst the Rabble think.

As you are asking, and I am trying to be as kind as I can. Yes there will be too much blue and no its not really "acceptable" from a traditional point of view. I think you have fallen into the trap of trying too hard to be different and in that you have succeeded, but traditional it is not. Sorry.

    Thanks Jock,
I thought it was too blue as well. My lady thought it was a good look, but I was sceptical. That's totally fine, I'll just have to make a new bag for it. I'm liking the MOD cantle, since I can make as many different bags as I want.

    Cameron ,

Given that you are asking for " traditional " input , I would have to agree with Jock regarding the color . However , that is some nice leatherwork , good job on the bag !

I think your original thought of something in the brown family of color would look quite sharp . It could range from some medium browns to dark chocolate . I also think the type of leather you used for the blue would work much better than suede .

    Thanks Mike,
I'm thinking of re-doing a dark chocolate bag in leather, the suede just didn't hold up under regular wear. I think I still have the bag somewhere, I'll add a photo if I do.

    Cheers,

    Cameron ,

Suede can be a fickle thing . I have never had much luck with it . There are many shades of brown that would work great with your Manx Hunting tartan ( which is a great looking tartan by the way )

Best of luck on the next sporran bag .
