I've been back to our In-store workshop with our seamstress Beth and this time she was working on a shoulder Plaid. I've wrote a wee blog post with some behind the scenes shots into its creation, and some ideas for wearing a Shoulder Plaid.

Thanks Stuart. I'm guessing there are more custom cuts for individuals due to a person's height and tartan pattern, but is there a rule of thumb on the number of sett/selvage count for the shoulder plaid? Example: equal squares, offset percentage length to width or can it be just random for any tartan choice?

Generally our seamstress uses a standard size for her Plaid, trying to incorporate as much colour from the design as she can, while keeping it symmetrical. The Plaid can be pinned by a Brooch further down or higher up on the chest to adjust length. It can also be folded and pinned in different ways at the back to shorten it. If a customer is particularly tall, more material can be used to create a longer Plaid.

There are a few choices for the edging of the Plaid, shown in the article is the Frayed edge.
