Jacobite shirt with utility kilt

I like the look of a black Jacobite shirt, and was considering wearing one with either of my utility kilts from UT Kilts (one tan Standard II and one olive green Deluxe). I normally wear them with solid colored crew shirts, high top hiking shoes (Ozark Trails) and black ankle length socks. Would the change from a crew shirt necessitate a change in anything else (different shoes/socks?), or do you feel the shirt just wouldn't fit with a utility kilt at all?

I have to confess that I sorta dig Jacobite/renfaire/pirate shirts. I've seen them worn with utility kilts and I think it's totally fine, and certainly no different than any other big, blousy shirt. I wouldn't change shoes or socks or anything just because of the shirt.

Since they really are not that historically Scottish, I suppose it does not matter. I have a couple and they are comfortable. However I think that a shirt that most people think of as historical may look a bit odd with a kilt that pretty much nobody thinks is historical.

I think the utility kilt would work about the same as any other solid color kilt. I would go with a loafer or some other casual non-sneaker type shoe and kilt hose. If you throw on a sporran the end result would look rather well turned out. I have always liked the Jacobite shirts and feel that they have been around long enough that they should be more accepted. I call it the ren-faire look. Though IMHO, it is common enough to be termed Highland-American casual.

Personally I'd go for brown with tan or olive green - but that might be too matchy-matchy, and you do have the black socks - give it a go and see how it looks is the best thing to do. If you are happy with the effect then that's the end of it.

Thanks, guys! I think my mom has convenced me to go with a cream colored shirt, rather than black, and a black vest if I want to dress it up a bit. She also believes I should wear leather sandals inatead of hiking shoes. Idk about that, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Why not indeed. The jacobite shirt is very much a casual garment so absolutely no reason why it should not be entirely appropriate for wear with a Utilikilt.
