    Hello From Ontario

    Hey all!

I'm glad to have found an active forum like this one with tons of great content. This past Saturday I attended the Fergus Scottish festival and instantly fell completely enamoured with it all. The games, the dancing, the music, and most assuredly the dress. I am nearly completely Scottish (and English) by heritage, so it was additionally great to celebrate that part of my history.

As for myself, I am pretty much completely new to anything related to any Highland dress. The extent of my experiences is presently this scarf that I bought in Fergus. Being a Gilbert, I naturally had to go for the Buchanan tartan.

I like the ancient one (pictured) more than the modern one, personally. Essentially what I'm saying is that I have nearly nonexistent knowledge and experience in Highland dress except for a few things I have learned here and there so I am looking forward to learning more about it and building up a wardrobe.

So, a disorganized smattering of facts about me: I am twenty-two, a student, living near Toronto. If all goes well I'll be a student for eight more years or so. I am passionate about writing, reading, art, tea, history. I have been known to sink my entire day into playing board games. I favour great kilts over modern kilts. I own a cat but think I may be more of a dog person. I was disheartened to learn that clan Buchanan is "armigerous" and hence "not what a clan 'ought to be." so I hope to meet some fellow armigerous clan-folk to ease my worried mind.

At any rate thanks for having me. I am greatly looking forward to learning more and building up a wardrobe, not to mention meeting some of you all!

    Welcome

Welcome from a Scotsman living in the West Midlands of England. Intrigued by your intention to continue as a student for eight years - sounds a very long haul!

Well met E. Some of our new and old PhD kilties understand the school dedication. For the idea of "not what a clan ought to be" idea, some here will claim foul. This site is about kilting and all things Scottish. Explore instead the idea of the things that will connect you with the bulk of us. Glad to have you here from Oxford, MS.
