    Tweed jacket opinion

I found a beautiful tweed jacket at a thrift store, and it fits near perfect. I want to have it kilt cut, but when I told my better half of my alteration plans, she said something to the effect that it would look ridiculous.

I told her tweed and kilts go well together, but she ain't buying it.

    What say the rabble?

Also, what has it cost for those of you who've had a seamstress or tailor do their magic? I haven't yet got a quote on the cost locally. I'm not doing this myself, I don't want to ruin a perfectly good $6.49 jacket!

Are you kidding? Kilts and tweed are a long tradition. Google it and show your wife the cornucopia of photographic evidence. You can wave the "I told you so" comments in her face at your discretion (and commensurate with your own well being). ;)

That's a wonderful brown based tweed ! It would definitely compliment most any tartan and certainly compliments your MacKenzie tartan .

Tweed kilt jackets are very common and very proper for day wear and casual evening wear . Please assure your wife there is nothing unusual about them .

If she needs to see a visual , show her the pics in this recent thread , tweed kilt jackets in a variety of colors :

Personally I am very fond of the brown tweed kilt jackets , to my eye they are classic . It's a shame we don't see them more often in today's world .

I don't have any knowledge regarding the tailoring cost for a conversion , however , I would think it would be rather reasonable given that you don't need any size / fit alterations .

Great find and a very handsome tweed . In my humble opinion ... I say go for it !

    Cheers , Mike

    It's a great basic Tweed.
Tell her it's a basic neutral and ask for her imput on sporran, belt, socks & shoes/boots.
A neutral tweed is the kilt equivalent of the Chanel Black Jacket.
Cloth, Cut, Construction & Fit make something that appears very simple and lifts it into a investment piece that will last for years.
(all of the above is reverse psychology.... Hope it works)

Looks like it compliments the kilt very well. Great deal too. It appears it has an internal pocket which, while not impossible, might be a bit of a challenge. It cost about Cdn$25 for a tweed convert a couple of years ago.

So, is the tweed jacket the Little Black Dress of our wardrobe? Everyone should have one to base a look upon. I think the thrift store find above would look great along side the MacKenzie tartan.
