    I've developed o.c.d.

This Friday will mark six weeks since I placed an order for a five yard wool kilt from Rocky. Although I'm not normally inclined toward frequent email checking, once or twice a week has always been more than enough, I find myself checking my inbox 3 or 4 or 9 times a day looking for the "it's in the mail" email. The worst part is it could form a long lasting habit of email checking and prompt response even after there is no longer a useful purpose, and then all the people who received a prompt response from me will come to expect it.

Congratulations. We call it "Jonesing" for reasons i really don't know. Somebody else will surely inform us.

A "Jones" is an urban term that I believe started in the 1960's which describes a craving, fixation or strong desire. I think it was originally about drugs but I'm not sure. There was a comedic song about a "Basketball Jones" which was about needing to play basketball all the time. One source says it referred to Jones Alley, in Manhattan, associated with drug addicts.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

I hadn't heard the expression until I joined this forum. Definitely not a common term in Western Canada amongst the baby boomer generation.
    I have experienced it though....

Aye jonesing is, outside of here, most commonly used with regards to illicit drug use. My biggest concern is that even after I get my kilt people may expect me to read and respond to email promptly and I'm not sure if I can handle that kind of pressure over the long term.

I find the best thing about kilts is, even described in detail, it's better when in photo or in person. Always enjoy and admire a kilt pleated to the sett. Good for you (mildly sorry for the O. C. D.)

Jonesing is British and according to the Cambridge dictionary means Wanting the good expensive and exclusive things that the neighbours (here the Family Jones)
have. "Keeping up with the Jones's" is the correct term of speech.

It was a drug reference. A person with a "Jones" had a big time heroin addiction. A casual user on the other hand had a "Smith." The latter has fallen out of the vernacular.

My apologies; it seems I've caused the discussion to veer off course. In an attempt to steer it back . . . I think the term for the title of this thread is O.K.D.
