Value fabric?
I'm looking for 16oz wool tartan to make a kilt from. Has anyone any experience of fabric from "the house of tartan" their prices are extremely cheap. Maybe the product it too good to be true?

House of Tartan is a member of the Scottish Tartans Authority. Their service and reliability is excellent. The price is very competative but it' worth checking the source/quality of the cloth. At that price it's probaly not woven in Scotland and is likely to have a tuck edge rather than a selvedge.

Thanks for the reply. The advert says it has a "kilt selvege for kilt making". Dosen't mention the source though.

Hmm, no I don't think so. There are tartans on the list (e.g., Isle of Skye) that Marton Mills doesn't weave.

Sorry but unless they stopped production due to licence, it is order code JR014 from the Jura range. It is in the Jura swatch book (number 2) I received a month ago and hasn't any update as to availability like many of the other tartans which they have ceased. In fact, I think it was one of their most popular tartans of the last few years or so they told me at the trade fair I attended about a week ago. They also make it in PV Balmoral range.
Not all of their current production tartans are on the website.
I presume the supplier here may have based their product list on a range sent to them by MM.
