Kilt vacuum brush modification
I have a fawn pug, a 365 day per year short hair shedder. My vacuum cleaner has great suction and kept trying to swallow my kilts.
To prevent the tug-o-war in dehairing I modified an old soft bristle upholstery brush.
First step is to find a flow restrictor that fits in the nozzle bore - I used a grommet and an o-ring to keep it from falling out. The inner hole is about 1/2 the hose diameter.
Second is to remove the brush and drill relief holes around the periphery of the inner wall that backs the brush bristles but away from the lip and reinstall the brush. I Used a 1/4 inch bit. Staying away from the lip for the drilled hole maintains a smooth lip for the fabric to get sucked against without damage.
The combination of the two steps reduces the air flow and the maximun vacuum to a level that picks up the pleats to force air through but still allows easy sliding of the brush down the pleat picking up dog hair and my skin dander.
