Opinion: the wearing of Sports Socks with Kilt (Soccer,Hockey,Baseball)
I am curious, What is the Opinion on the wearing of the Longer Sports Socks with the Kilt. The Kind that you can get at any Sporting Goods Store. The reason I ask is that they are generally cheaper then you can get Kilt Hose For, They come in a large variety of Colors, They look about the same (except without the Ribbing,Patterning). I of course am limiting this to the solids, not the kind worn in the 70's with the stripes at the top (that would be absolutely atrocious).
Personally I simply cannot see a difference between the look except the sports socks are tighter, and have a different weave. I do have a cheaper pair of Kilt Hose (and will probably get a nicer pair later). I am just curious on this, I wouldn't want to commit some kind of faux pas

What kind of kilt would you be wearing them with? Contemporary or traditional? If contemporary, I suppose that anything goes.
I think they look a bit odd with a traditional tartan kilt, and I only recall seeing them worn in that fashion by athletes competing in Highland games
I guess it all depends on what you'll be doing or on the look you're trying to achieve. If it's simply a matter of economics, there are kilt hose that can be had inexpensively (http://www.wbsocks.co.uk/kilt-hose-kilt-socks/).
Personally, I'd discourage it if you're planning to wear them with a traditional tartan kilt and kit, but to each his own.

Besides price, I have to consider climate when choosing hose. The lighter materials (cotton or blends verses wool) are cooler in the heat and humidity of the Southern US. This may be a consideration of yours as well.

As you can see from my profile picture, that is exactly what I do when I run. Other than running, I generally will wear the kilt socks or nothing (sandals).

Socks don't need to cost a lot of money. I picked up several pair on ebay from W. Brewin & Co. that are totally decent and have held up well. They're not top shelf but they're comfortable and look nice, and for 7 bucks a pair or whatever I've been super happy. For funky, fun, colorful socks my go-to has always been Sock Dreams. I've been buying socks from them for almost 10 years. Good stuff.

Should not be a problem. I wear soccer socks or rugby socks much more frequently than formal kilt hose.

All Good Comments.
@Tarheel: The main reason's for the question were Price, Climate, Color Selection, and Availability. That said I am very familiar with the Southern Climate so the thicker wool hose are problematic, also I really don't see paying that much for socks when the rest of your outfit was cheaper. ( the wool blend hose from usakilts are good climate wise though, to bad they only have black and white)
@ShaunMaxwell: Currently I don't have a Pure Scottish Wool Traditional Tartan Kilt (maybe one day), And simply put I have no Idea which Tartan I would actually get (my last name is the equivalent of "Welsh Peasant" , Hey somebody had to do the work, everyone couldn't possibly have been upper class) Maybe I will just make my own. So That shouldn't really be an issue.
I would of course like to hear more opinions on the subject, especially from the "Traditional" guys.
