Kilt pin, sporran on 5.11 Tactical Kilt?

I'm thinking about wearing the 5.11 Tactical Kilt as the material is lighter, and probably better suited for the hot, humid Florida summers.

Although it's not a traditional kilt, what do you think about wearing kilt hose, sporran and kilt pin with it?

Well, I'll upset a lot of contemporary kilt folks by what I'm about to say, but first of all, wool is almost a miracle fabric for cool in heat, warm in cold, and warm in cold even when wet, but at least with the traditional gear people who are less familiar with it will know it's supposed to be a kilt and won't wonder if it's some strange garment that they don't understand.

There have been suggestions of alternative sporrans to wear with that style kilt (ie. ammo cases). I don't know that a kilt pin would be needed except for personal tastes (bling).

I only have one kilt pin, and it's a Scottish thistle.

I'm contemplating buying the 5.11 Tactical Kilt, and wearing it with a sporran, kilt hose and my kilt pin.

Maybe, it's a good idea. Then again, maybe it's not.

I do own a utility kilt and wear knee length hose, (usually my compression hose) with it and a sporran. I have one of Stillwater Kilts fabric sporran that goes well with a utility kilt. I don't wear it often, mainly for lounging around the house or gardening. I find a kilt pin on a utility kilt looks a bit odd.
Find the look you like and don't look back.

I have found that the general public is more likely to recognize a tactical or utility kilt as a kilt when an sporran is worn with it. If you care what the public thinks or recognizes.
I believe 5.11 Tactical has a cloth pouch that they show worn as a sporran. I have several cloth sporrans, from Amerikilt and other sources, that I wear with my tactical kilts. Hose, I wear or not depending on the weather and my mood. I personally would leave off the kilt pin.

I find that Average Joe doesn't have any trouble recognizing a flat front/pleated back skirt on a man as a kilt, whether it's tartan or canvas or camouflage. I'd even go so far as to say that to many people, a kilt is by default a Utilikilt until you tell them otherwise.

Maxpedition makes an admin pouch that IMO looks great when used as a sporran, but there are plenty of other similar pouches out there too. Do a google image search for tactical kilt sporran and you'll find loads of inspiration.

I wouldn't go sticking a kilt pin though your TDK. Nyco rip stop isn't like wool, and I think you'd find that over time the pin will chew up the fabric pretty bad. My suggestion would be to sew a patch of velcro loop to your apron corner and use hook backed patches instead. I used a piece that's 4"x4" on this kilt. My cat approves as well, which is nice.
