Sitting on the ground in a kilt? LOL!

    Hello all,
I have not been camping, or picnicking, etc in my kilt yet. But if one did, and say it is just a hiking situation with no chairs, etc and you all stopped to camp or picnic. How would you sit on the ground around others? Whether you wear underwear or go commando, it would very hard to sit on the ground and not show the world a sight! LOL! I am just curious about that, something that crossed my mind. I suppose just sit down with your legs stretched out and crossed at the ankles or something.

Women the world over have had to deal with this situation for centuries, although the era of the mini skirt must have caused a few problems for them. However, the girls with practice and timing have managed pretty well. For those of us wearing the kilt in Scotland then these situations inevitably occur and have done for countless years, then one chooses ones company and ground well and should accidental and i stress the word accidental, exposure take place----- and it does----- then discretion prevails and no one sees anything and if there is nothing seen then nothing can be said. Simple.

I`m a bit to old and gimpy to be sitting on the ground much, kilted or otherwise. Getting back up is the hardest part. I would suggest looking about for any convenient log or rock.

This same concern has arisen the few times I have camped while kilted. The few times I was without a perch (folding chair, cooler as a seat, log) that raised me off the ground, I sat crossed legged with my apron spread flat.

I lowered to one knee, sat while that same leg was bent, then folded my other leg under the kilt. I made sure there was a barrier between my butt and the ground in all cases.

I'm sure that you have all the same biting creatures in Alabama that we do in Mississippi. Trust me, you won't effect (decline or growth) a species of parasites by preventing some biting your flesh.

Tarheel's method sounds like a good one. If one were to hike a lot, procuring a shooting stick might be a good purchase. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Hunting-Bi...1839557/i.html

I would sit on the ground a lot while backpacking. No chairs for miles! I would tend to kneel, arrange my legs crossed behind me, and then sit back onto my bum so that I was sitting cross-legged. If you hold down the apron with your hand while you do that, you'll never flash anyone!
