goat hair sporrans??

Hello lads and lassies!!! A while back I got some goat hides from a friend to tan and will be starting the process soon... After they are tanned, i will be making them into goat hair sporrans and such, and yes i will be posting them in the xmarket on are forum.... But....
What are some hair on sporran designs would you all like to see that are not too hard to do?? (ie no metal closers)
Any input is welcomed and appreciated!!

Superior question. I can think of some to ask you.
1) What length of hair are the pelts?
2) Will you be tanning to create a supple or rigid product?
The sporran I made (fur front) has a flap instead of a cantle (metal with snap) closure.
3) Have you seen sporrans with other types of snap closures made of alternate materials (wood or leather)?
4) Did you imagine a simple hunting or semi-formal design or a ceremonial style used by military bands?
The place to look will be threads on DIY (do it yourself) kilt accessories. There you will find projects of all types of the questions I've asked. Another place will be the stores (our advertisers) that sell sporrans of various styles. Then imagine your goat fur as the finished look.

Very good questions, sadly i can only answer some of them at the moment... But...
The hair is of good length! Slightly shorter than a horse hair one would be.
The closers would all be tooled leather that a friend of mine can help with.
I think i will go for hunting style or military style ones!!!
I think most of the product will be supple leather but plan on making a few slighly more rigged ones

Here are some examples from other members. *Micric* posted a sporran he made in May 2015 that has a wooden cantle.


Member *Mackenzie* posted his goat hair sporran with a leather flap.
These two seem to be rigid bodies. For my own sporran, I made a rigid body and sewed a supple pelt to the front.

Keep us posted on progress. The bottom pic is nice, even if celtic designs are not my favorite for that sort of thing, the goat hair bag is quite nice.

Good luck on your goat hair. I've been researching making a hunting sporran out of the pieces of a rather expensive large leather purse my girlfriend no longer wants. I've come to the conclusion that a more flexible/bendable leather will equate with comfort while sitting, and less wait to carry when standing. And, given the ease of locating metal cantles as a closure, I may make a cantle from stiffer leather with a softer leather for the body. But that's just my two cents in research. Take pictures throughout your design process, they may help you and the rest of us (I'll be doing the same).
