Veterans, sams etc.
This has been posted earlier, I didn't see it until now, so if you feel it is now right, please remove.
Last year there was a question about wearing kilts and medals with Military attire. The posting developed into discussing SAMS and their dress. There was also a question about when to wear medals.
I am a member of SAMS in Phoenix, AZ and I am the Color guard Commander for the Post. I served in the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) British Army. Yes there are differences between US and UK drill, but it is not a big problem.
Wearing of medals (UK), that covers Scotland, when a civilian. only issued medals to be worn with jacket on the left side. Relative medals can be worn on the right side. Appropriate times are Remembrance Sunday, Forces days and Battle memorial days parades.
Black Tie dress, miniature medals worn over left side breast.
Now for SAMS. SAMS does not have dress regulations, they have a dress code. big difference. This dress code is under review.
It is not mandatory to wear kilts, trews are accepted as they have an important history with Scottish Regiments.
SAMS is a Veterans organization and is non profit. I wear my Regimental Uniform for formal events such as Color Guards and Remembrance Tables. For non formal events I wear one of my kilts.
As regards ribbons, being a British Vet I have two ribbons, there is big difference between UK and US. I know what I had to do to earn them and I don't have a problem with that.
SAMS have a cap of 2.5% of members can be Veterans of UK and Commonwealth countries.13029419_10153470586807111_208505002238246906_o (1).jpg

SAMS Members
Myself as well. I believe there are quite a few SAMS members on this forum.

If you click on "Community" on the toolbar above, and then "Groups" you will find the SAMS group here on XMarks, which has 56 members.
