    Kilt with a Waistband (huh?!)

How common is it for a kilt to have a wide waistband like this:

Label says it was made by R. Forsyth of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

There are also buttons on it (fore and aft), presumably for suspenders (i.e. braces).

Not very but as a style it goes back to some of the earliest kilts. I've examined a number of early 19th century specimens that have this feature.

I kinda like it. Looks as if it might provide a more flattering, contoured fit, especially if worn without a belt.

its not actually a bad idea. There's very little give in my kilt after a few beers

One of the reasons that this has a waistband may have been to increase the length. The made section is made from single with selvedge to selvedge cloth. I think it was 24 inches wide but would need to check my records, when I'm get home.
