    bogus military sporrans on Ebay

Just a heads-up for those who don't know all that much about military sporrans, these look questionable.

First, said to be a Gordon Highlanders sporran.

You can see that it's a military sporran that's had a different cantle stuck on; the attachment screws are in different places. I'm guessing it's a Pakistani cantle. The cantle has a Gordon Highlanders cap badge (looks like a Pakistani reproduction). Thing is, Gordon Highlanders sporran badges looked completely different.

and a photo of what an actual Gordon Highlanders sporran looks like

Here's the second listing, purportedly a Scots Guards sporran. It doesn't resemble a Scots Guards sporran. It appears to be an ordinary civilian sporran with a Scots Guards badge on it.

    Here's actual Scots Guards sporrans.

Those knock off sporrans have been kicking around eBay for a few years now, not exactly a new occurrence. The maker of them is in London and also does plaid broaches as well. The odd part is Trident sales is a reputable dealer and generally sells top notch items. They are aimed at the fantasy re enactors types who are willing to dump good money to play dress up. In general, those who are collecting high value military sporrans do quite a bit of research before purchasing. The fakes will never go for the asking price and still be sitting there years down the road.

    Here's an interesting one.

It's a beautiful sporran, of the highest quality, by L&M Highland Outfitters in Canada.

What it is not, is a Black Watch military sporran.

    Here it is

As you can see the cantle and cones are the ordinary cast-thistle civilian pattern.

Here's an actual Black Watch sporran. The cantle is gilt, the cones leather (or patent leather)
