    Pop-ups and "keywords"...

I've noticed that there are a LOAD of pop-ups coming on this site ONLY... and they're able to circumvent the pop-up blockers that I have. NOT GOOD.

I've also noticed that "keywords" in the threads are underlined and have links to advertisers. NOT GOOD.

Is this a site thing... or a program that has entered MY computer.

Here's a test. Do these words have underlining links?

    Cars
    Sale
    Insurance
    Poker

If they do... then why? If not... you may be one of the lucky ones with good computer protection!

After posting this, the insurance and cars words were linked on the thread.

Hey... feel free to try some others if you're having the same thing happen. We may as well get SOME entertainment out of this pain in the ****!!!

I have not had any of these problems Jimmy. Perhaps an adaware scan on your computer is a good idea. The only pop -ups I have seen are for PM.

You've got yourself some malware on your computer, mate.

There are some programs that install themsevles along with some "legit" things like the Kazaas or "free" stuff.

I can't recall the name of the one program that did this specifically. It looks at the context of pages you're viewing, see's a word like "football" and makes it a link to an advertiser who's paid said malware vendor for it. I think it's despicable because it compromises the owner of the website's intentions.

Check out LavaSoft's Adaware or something like that. And STOP using InternetExplorer all together. Get Firefox from Mozilla.

    I'm in agreement here.
AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Firefox are all useful programs. And all free, of course.

Also, if you need a free and frequently updated virus scanner, try using Trend Micro's Housecall.

If anyone else has any good suggestions along this line, then I think it would be a useful community service to post them here.

Buy a Mac and don't worry about these frequently reoccurring problems.
Some day I will follow my own advise and ditch this horrid Microsoft environment.

Oh, how I wish I could afford the new iMac!

So very, very beautiful and sleek. The time of macs being a hassle is over, and now the only barrier is money.
So for now, I play around on a linux box.

I use Netscape on an iMac and haven't seen any pop-ups here.
I hate MS and won't use it. They put too many small software and hardware companies out of business to get where they are today.
