Another Tasmanian Kilt night

We had our monthly meeting last night, a relaxing evening at our house chatting about kilts and a host of other issues, sipping whisky and beer.

Inspired by photos here of Bear and friends' kilt night out on the town we discussed having a kilt night at a local (pretend) Irish Pub.

The only objection we all had was having to put up with tobacco stink in the pub. The last thing we want is our kilts smelling of tobacco.

The Tasmanian Gov. is talking about banning smoking in public places, but are very half hearted about it.

We have a Federal election coming up next month, they are only concerned about votes.

Think I'll phone around to see if there is a non-smoking pub in the area.

It would be nice if you could find a non-smoking pub. The smoke and bright lights combined can trigger migraines for me, so I look for non-smoking ones too. Makes it easy to find one in Salt Lake, where smoking banned in all public buildings. Too bad most forms of liquor are too!

Okay, okay you caught me. The closest pub to me is a two hour drive away. There are only cowboy or gay bars here, and one has to wonder who's winning in the battle for the tightest trousers. :o

There's a bar in this area that claims to be an Irish pub, but it sure ain't. Country music on the box and lightweight peewater on tap.

Glad to hear that you have decided to go out and find a place Graham. But I hear you about the Pub thing. Most are not equipped with a good ventilation system and all the odors seem to be constantly recycling themselves back into the area, and combine that with other odors, it can be a big mess odor wise. A lot of municipalities here in Colorado are starting to ban smoking at any drinking establishment, and it is causing a big uproar.

However on the other side, I feel that to share with others is something that transcends all the negatives of the smelly Pub. So my personal feeling is that I would not go to a smoke filled establishment by myself or on a date, I would go for companionship with others.

Now you know how wishy washy I am, but some kilts are washable

Denver does have a few non-smoking bars around, but I do not think that they are to kilt friendly (or should I say the clientele).

I hate pubs that put up an "irish" sign just to be trendy and then have non-celtic bands all the time.
