"Rob Roy" Sporran?

I'm contemplating using some expected bonus money to purchase a new sporran for regular day wear. I'm looking really hard at a "Rob Roy" style sporran, largely because I think it will allow for easier carry of my rather unwieldy keys. Would such an accessory be strictly speaking "in bounds" for day wear, or would it be seen by those in the know as a faux pas or Yankeeism?

I'll be interested in the responses to this but in the meanwhile, I solved the "key" problem with more formal sporrans both with and without cantles using a belt-hook for keys. I put the belt hook on the side of the sporran between the front and back with the keys hanging inside along with my other bits & pieces.

Easy to put in, even easier to retrieve.

I might give that a try, though my problem has less to do with retrieval of said keys than of fitting them into my sporran along with my wallet and my phone.

I could certainly also get a belt pouch or something for carrying the keys or the phone or the wallet separately, but a new sporran has the advantages of not involving anything else on my belt and, well, being a new sporran...

Well, I have owned two sporrans; a cheap hard rather flat Pakistani made sporran, which was awful and not roomy at all. I currently own a very nice Rob Roy style from Wyvern waterworks, which was custom made and I love. It's soft, roomy, and looks good. However, I'm moving on to acquire a McRostie, which can be more formal if needed than a Rob Roy style sporran. The McRostie is upgrade and pricier, but worth it in my opinion. Moral of my story, Rob Roy sporrans are great for ALMOST all occasions! Btw, here is a pic of my roomie Rob Roy!

To me they look a little costumey, but that's just me, however I can see all the plus sides to having a much roomier sporran.

I will probably never purchase one for an entirely different reason, the one time I carried a full sporran flask I found that having something heavy bouncing around the "Crown Jewels" area was not pleasant and therefore all heavy items got placed into my jacket.

Ultimately its up to you and there are some very nice Rob Roy's out there, but just bear in mind that a full bag may need to be swung to the side to avoid bruised nuts (sorry couldn't help myself).

I use a Wyvern Leatherworks Rob Roy sporran quite often.

The Rob Roy style has been around a long time.

Here it is in the Anderson 1936 catalogue, #20 "Rob Roy".



It's more or less a return to the late 17th century/early 18th century style, before the brass opening top was added.
