Looking for info on kilt makers who make kilts that meet as many of the following criteria as possible without having to do a custom order: 1) No metal in them. This one is a must, because I want a kilt that goes through airport metal detectors without issue 2) Brown, blue, or green tweed 3) Cargo pockets. Skilts have most of this covered, except they have metal in their buckles. But I'm interested in other makers as well, and googling "kilt with buttons" gets me way too many false positives. Thanks!
Undoubtedly there are other materials that can make a buckle other than metal, but for getting through airport security it is not an issue. I've flown kilted often, as have others here. If the detector goes off, a quick pat over the buckles by the TSA rep to ensure nothing else under there, and happily on my way. Your other choice might be to have the kilt made, and then replace the buckle with plastic hardware used on backpacks and such. These are easily found in fabric shops and camping supply stores.
Some kilts have Velcro instead of buckles. I have such a five yd kilt. Great for going through security. Any kilt maker could do this for you.

Another way to pass through airport security is to put all your metal in your sporran and though the X Ray and just before you step into the detector turn the kilt on your body 90 degrees. One buckle in front and the others in the back. I have done this many times.

I am pretty sure there was recently a post here about kilted flying that mentioned replacing their metal buckles with carbon fibre. I looked but couldn't find the post. Maybe they will chime in again with a source.
