Is that the purple one? If so It's pretty cool.
Royal Stewart outfit sounds pretty good. I may be tempted to add a third colour personally. It may be a little too muck black and red, but than again maybe not.

Although I am not Scottish, but that is one good looking Tartan.
How about oatmeal colour hose?

I'll leave this one to Hamish and Episcopalscot.
As for the color coordination, just make sure that the kilt is not below the knees, or the kilt hose will look like tights. (Seen it before). That's the easiest way to avoid that Brittney Spears stigma.

I've done the Black Stewart with black but with Royal Stewart I lean towards white...just me though...
EDIT(OOPPPSssss....I said white...should have said cream...the only Thing I have in the was of white are athletic socks....kilt hose in black, cream, navy and tan....Hamish caught me indirectly on this one!)

I like it quite alot. There's a couple of thin purple lines (I suppose to reflect the color of the thistle) but quite subtle. There are so many wonderful tartans that it makes choosing difficult.

Hi Ambrose,
What you describe for wear with the Royal Stewart tartan is just fine - with one exception: the black hose! Personally, I think they will look too 'heavy' (too much black in that ensemble) and, as Bcmtnbka suggests, oatmeal or beige would be much better. You don't mention footwear (important!), but black polished leather shoes will set the whole outfit off beautifully.
PLEASE, don't opt for white hose - unless you are a member of a Pipe Band. If you do, those who understand will think you have rented the outfit!!!
As for the Pride of Scotland tartan: this would be my choice over Royal Stewart! The colouring is much more subtle and far less commonly seen. To my thinking, Royal Stewart is a fine tartan BUT it is seen everywhere - that and Black Watch are SO overused, I could never wear either of them. I've not seen Pride of Scotland "in the flesh" but it looks very nice indeed in the tartan register at The Scottish Tartans Authority.

Royal Stewart and Black Hose...
I've done something very similar to that with my Lennox district tartan... The result can be seen in my gallery, even tho there's a rather large dog blocking the view of the kilt...
