Someone Asked, Freedom Kilt CADPAT vs UK Workman's

Now that I have my new UK Workman can answer the question.

First, we're talking roses and orchids here, they're both beautiful in their own way.

I think the question was the weight of the Freedom Kilt CADPAT (Canadian armed forces camo pattern - its different/darker than the U.S. MARPAT) compared to the UK Workman's.

The Freedom Kilt CADPAT was made with two side pockets, one back pocket, and two hidden between the pleats inside pockets (my choice). The inside pockets have the normal softer pocket cloth.

So, they weigh the same, 3 1/2 lbs. That's rough since I'm usuing the with and without on the bathroom scale method.

The Freedom Kilt uses jean-like buttons. There are 14 of them on the kilt.

UK uses snaps and rivets. There are 18 snaps, 14 rivets, a metal clip and some leather on the UK.

So, there's more metal contributing to the UK's weight.

The Freedom Kilt has three outside pockets, the UK has four pockets. Probably not much difference in weight.

Freedom Kilt probably has more cloth. The FK pleats are 3 1/2" deep under the side pockets and 3 1/2" under the back pocket. The UK Workman's pleats are 2" under the back pockets and 1 3/4" under the side pockets.

Looks like the extra fabric in the Freedom Kilt makes up for the extra metal weight in the Utilikilt.

Feeling the cloth it feels like a similar weight but the Freedom Kilt CADPAT cloth is probably a tad thicker. Don't have calipers to get scientific.

And of course both UK and FK make kilts in lighter weights too.

Roses and Orchids, Apples and Oranges...hope this answers the question asked a while ago.

Okay, okay...was just ironing my new workman's after its first washing and noticed the modesty snaps I missed in my UK snap count. So there's the equivalent of about 21 snaps on the workmans.

I loved my drinking, but I sure do miss my brain cells.
