    Hutcheson ancient tartan

    Hello Everyone,
I have been trying so hard to find a kilt maker that will make a kilt with the Hutcheson ancient tartan. If any of you know where such a kilt could be maid I would greatly appreciate your advice. I have been looking for years.

    Elsa:

I'd responded to your previous thread, see post #11:

If you're wanting the Hutcheson tartan, I thinking it's going to be a custom weave, as it doesn't seem be be available commercially (hence the high price).

USA Kilts (11 yard minimum and includes the cost of the kilt) or ScotWeb (minimum order of 4 meters @ $109/m for the fabric alone) can arrange it for you. Both are advertisers on this forum.

Alternatively, if you know which part of Scotland your family is from, you might consider a District tartan, which would likely be easier to come by.

    Cheers,

    SM

This may be the rout I end up going. But It is my hope to see this tartan worn by those who have relation or related names to Hutchens again. To my knowledge no member of my family has worn the Hutchens tartan since the war for independence.

Is it this tartan you're looking for, or another? It's a really beautiful pattern, but I believe it dates back to around 2002, when it was a designed by Colin Hutcheson, himself a weaver.

A point of correction, Colin Hutcheson was not a weaver, he was a sales director with Kinloch Andersons.

An important distinction, and thank you for setting that straight.

Elsa, if you're after a commercially available tartan with a possible clan link to your name, may I suggest the MacDonald of Sleat tartan? The MacDonalds of Sleat are alternatively known as Clan Donald North and Clan Uisdean. Uisdean is the Gaelic root of the anglicized name Hutcheson.

    Yes Sir,
This is the tartan I am looking for. The Hutcheson ancient is a beautiful tartan. The problem I am facing is to also find someone that can make a ladies knee length kilt from Hutchison ancient tartan.
