    Kilt hose

    Hi everyone.
The thing is, I'v been asked the question about marl kilt hose by a friend of mine, are they suitable for black tie formal evenings. I'm not sure about this but I guess someone will know.

Not sure what you're referring to. Can you give us an example? A picture?

Sounds like it could be anything not a solid color.

a yarn (= thread used for knitting) made by twisting different colours together:

Marl is often used in knitwear.
Shetland marl is a chunky yarn.

cloth with areas of different colours that do not form a regular pattern, made from marl yarn (= thread for knitting):

Marl is made by combining two different coloured yarns in the thread which is used to construct the fabric.

I'd think it would depend on the color... Most of the marled hose I've seen are earthier colors that are better suited for day wear. For instance:

I like those a lot, but yeah, I would likely wear something just a tad more formal for a black-tie event, perhaps even all green or all red rather than the earth tones.
I'll be corrected shortly, I'm sure.

I think in the formal context, marled hose and those hose pictured above might be a better choice for casual and certain smart(not formal) occasions.

    Kilt hose

Hi , I did ask what colour he was thinking, he answered that he had seen a pair on the House of Cheviot that were burgundy and khaki green, tbh I've not seen them myself, personal choice for a black tie formal evenings would be a solid colour depending what kilt I have on at the time, with my red McGregor I were tartan green with McGregor cuffs or tartan green, even burgundy. I did say to my friend get yourself a solid colour and get a couple of pairs that compliments the tartan of his kilt. But I thought it would be good to hear what guys on here thought, I off to have a look on the hoc page.

Does anyone know what color these hose are? I really like them and would like to pick up a pair, I love how up close they are made up of different colored wool, not unlike tweed, but I'm not having any luck finding them on either the websites of XMarks sponsors or the House of Cheviot website.

    Looks like bracken.

Arnot is right. They're House of Cheviot Rannoch hose in bracken. I think I'd ordered dark loden, but received these instead — a fortuitous accident as far as I'm concerned as I like them better than the dark loden.
