Hello from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
I am happy to join this group of kilt lovers and makers. After buying Barbara Tewksbury's book, The Art of Kiltmaking, I took the plunge with four yards of 16 ounce wool in the Clergy Tartan to sew my very first kilt. It is a gift for my husband, an ordained minister and hospital chaplain, to wear to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in July.
I began sewing my own dresses back in the 1960s, with the help of my mother and our neighbor. I finished my first A-line look-alike with my grandmotherly neighbor when I was 8 years old. For over 50 years now, I have been sewing clothing, tailoring suits, designing and fabricating custom window treatments, and machine quilting coverlets for the dying patients at the hospital.
With all of that needlework experience, you would think this kiltmaking would be a breeze. Not so! I am sweating bullets over this kilt and hope someone here will have answers to the difficulties I am encountering.
