Kilt at work: APPROVED!
I mentioned in another thread that I asked my employer if I could wear a kilt to work. I felt a little emboldened and started yesterday the process of trying to get someone, anyone, in authority at work to approve of me wearing a kilt to the office. HR was completely useless and dodged the question without a yes or no answer, but had to slip in at the end "Please note that (COMPANY) is always interested in honoring diversity and becoming aware of cultural differences." Lawyers. *groan*
My boss is much cooler. We bounced some lighthearted emails back and forth. She checked out a picture of me wearing a kilt. And ultimately she approved of my intentions with two caveats:
#1) Don't make a joke out of this. Have good motivations for this.
#2) Don't let your twig and berries pop out. No, she didn't use those words exactly. But she said it in a way that I got the gist of what she was saying.
She also told me not to worry about HR, that if there were any problems she would take care of HR. "Express yourself". Now is that cool or what?
Monday morning I go to work kilted.

I already did post the pic here... it's in the Pics section of this forum. The other guys in the pic are other guys that work for her so she can see that the guys are all comfortable around me in a kilt already.
They just aren't too comfortable with the idea of what I might not be wearing underneath.

Congratulations! You've been given a privilege that not many of us enjoy! I have a couple of small suggestions you might want to keep in mind as you embark on your adventure. Be proud without turning people off. Demonstrate that the clothing you wear is not an impedement to performance. Mostly, prove to the boss that she made the right decision. Work is, after all, work.
Cheers!

That's great man, always good to hear of people that are accepting. As I've been wearing kilts to work for a little over a month now, I have to agree whole heartedly with...
