New invention (as far as I know...) "The Idaho Skilt"
So, I play in a pipe band, along with some other gals. We are all on the "fluffier" side, and I swear that putting on a regular band kilt adds twenty pounds! We just felt like a herd of cows.
First thing I did was get a "billie skirt". OMG! Way too short, and the yoke in front just accentuated me in places that I don't want accentuated.
What to do, what to do?
New invention, and we here at City of Trees Pipes and Drums have christened it - The Idaho Skilt!!!
Band kilt in the front, and 'appropriately modest' billie skirt in the back! Don't know why we didn't think of this YEARS ago!
Super easy to put together, because you don't have to sew the pleats, just stitch them to the back yoke. Wide, but deep pleats so that you still get that "swish" with way less fabric.
I also use the lightweight polyviscose fabric, so the whole thing only weighs a pound or so.
And for added fun, we went WILD with the lining. After all, the only person who sees the lining in the one who takes your Skilt off. Nudge nudge, wink wink.
Anyway, I thought it was so clever I wanted to share it. Of course, there are probably already thousands of similar things out there, but since we never saw any, we are calling ourselves "the inventors" of it. I have made 9 so far.

Of course now that I look at the pictures I can see it needs a good press...

I like it. It seems like a good compromise between a billie skirt and a kilt for female band members.

Looks like it fits perfectly.
You're not alone in disliking the fit of clothes originally designed for men- I've spent over 45 years in Pipe Bands and women are fairly unanimous in disliking (to put it mildly) wearing men's kilts, men's vests, and men's jackets.
One would think that with many Pipe Bands being half female nowadays that correctly fitting women's things would be widely available, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
Oh and Ghillies. But men hate those just as much as the women do.
(BTW I'd not heard of a Billie Skirt until now.)
You could call your invention a Billie Kilt, which has a nice ring to it
