    King Charles III tartan

At the Braemar Gathering yesterday the King wore a new tartan designed for him by the Scottish Tartans Authority. Named the King Charles III tartan, it was based on the Balmoral tartan and designed earlier this year to mark the occasion of the Coronation and in recognition of His Majesty’s strong support in preserving the culture and traditions of Highland Dress and Scottish Tartans. I am proud to have played a major part in its creation.

    I was there...

And immediately spotted it was something new. My mates on either side of me spied the king through binoculars, but none of us three could identify it.

We guessed that it was the new tartan that had been hinted at recently - and splendid it is too..!

Is it restricted to HM's own personal use..?

It was created for HM and as such, is restricted unless he says otherwise.

Well done Peter, it is a lovely tartan. Although to my eye, I would prefer the King to wear the Balmoral tartan.

Indeed Jock, he always looks good in it. I wonder if we will see this new one being worn in preference to some of those that are associated with titles he's now passed on to William.

I'm guessing that the civilian kilts involved would be

    -Duke of Rothesay
    -Duke of Rothesay Hunting
    -Lord of the Isles Hunting

    Would there be others?

I would hold hard for a while, as some tartans may be redistributed around the family. Peter and I were hinting at this possibility earlier on in this thread. Time will tell.
