    DBE Christmas Tea

One of the highlights of starting the Christmas season for us is the local Daughters of the British Empire Christmas Tea. My wife and many friends get to attend as guests, and I usually assist as they're always in need of kilted gentlemen to work the event. Sadly, the one real Scot wasn't able to make it this year, so I was on my own to carry (wear?) the banner for kilting.

Atlanta Kilts Campbell of Cawdor Ancient with Black Argylle jacket and waistcoat, properly festive red hose and candy cane striped bow tie, green flashes, and an antique brooch for the kilt pin. It was a horrendous day of weather, so not pictured are my Balmoral bonnet with clan crest pin and Inverness rain cloak that were much needed coming in and going back out.

Good heavens, I didn't know that the Daughters of the British Empire still existed! They awarded me a prize for the highest marks in British history in grade 8 at my school back in the 1950s. It was a book about the Battle of Britain, which I still have. They used to be quite active in Canada, giving various awards for academic achievement, especially at the elementary and high school levels, but I have heard absolutely nothing about them in this country for decades. It's interesting that they are still active in the U.S.A.
