    Comment: It's cold out!

We've gotten four inches of snow over the past day and night (it's still early November, so this doesn't bode well for the coming winter). I went outside this morning, and passed a woman shoveling her sidewalk.

She said, "It's cold out!" I'm used to this sort of comment by now, so I just said, "Actually, I don't really feel the cold." She said, "But I do." She hadn't even meant anything about my kilt - she was just making conversation. Guess I should stop being so defensive.

    Andrew.
I know what you mean. While I didn't get quit as much snow as you, it was 28 degrees outside when I got up.

So that is cold and snow. I think that the kilts will soon be an indoor only thing.

Oh, come on Will! That is just as bad as believing that kilts are for special events and occasions only!!

Don't fall victim to that, Will! It was 28 here too. I walked around in the cold and snow (6 degrees F in the Whites) earlier this week. You've got three layers of material around your waist (because of the pleats), and if you wear kilt hose, you've got wool up to your knees. You'll be wearing more than most people who are wearing trousers.

Last winter, when it got down to -15F or so for the month of January, I wore a kilt every day, including the "flimsier" Utilikilt. Sure it's cold, but so are trousers. Before you stow the kilt for the winter, wear it outside a few times. There will be a shock at first because you'll feel the breeze on your knees and thighs. Then you'll notice that, although you can feel it, it isn't actually uncomfortable or unpleasant. I'd much rather have the breeze blowing between my knees than be cooped up in trousers.

Andrew, who is a month away from wearing a kilt for a year.

Getting cold here in California as well, down to 55f this morning.

It really is funny how we can take what others have said personaly, when in fact they hadn't even thought about us prior to making the comment.

    Sorry 'bout the cold joke.

    Spot on, Ham!
There's nothing more invigorating than an icy blast up your pleats.
    And, of course,
    Kilts are garments, not costumes!

My favorite response is "This is cold? What are you gonna do when winter gets here?"

I really feel great wearing a kilt while it is cold outside. Seems to keep me invigorated

I feel it shows a true sense of devotion, and the bottom of my kilt doesn't get icy as the bottom of my trousers did.

I have had someone call me a martyr once while it was pretty cold out.

Boy , you guys don't let me off easily!

In any case, I don't intend to put the kilts away for the winter.

However, I tend to hibernate during the winter. The outdoor activities that I like are mostly warm weather activities; such as motorcyling and Ren Faires. So I don't spend much time outdoors in winter.
Also, at this point, I don't have the wool kilts and kilt hose that some of you do. The kilts I have are from Stillwater kilts. They might not be as warm as others.

Like Andrew Breecher mentioned, so far my legs haven't been any colder than in trousers. So that is a good sign.

So I am sure that I will wear my kilts during the winter. I just don't go out much during winter other than to go to work.

Don't think that I will turn into a heretic and give up my kilts!
