Goodgirlgoneplaid has it dead to rights! You have to know how to walk the pleats,it is a sort of swagger I guess.Once you know how and you get that rythmic swing up, its a feeling all on its own.
I'm not saying it's any of you lads on the forum, but every now and then you see a fellow walking in the kilt with no idea of what I'm on about and, well,it's just a shame that's all.I knew an old ex army fellow once and he used to say that when on a kilted route march, with a piper at the head and the swing of the 18 ounce kilts working in rythm with their steps,he used to feel he could happily march on and on.
I have an 18 ouncer myself and once you know how to swing it as you walk its not hard at all.I can't speak from experience but i would imagine that it would in fact be harder to get a swing going in a constant manner in one of these more modern style light kilts.
