Point taken - as I have not as yet won the lottery, cost is also an important factor. Around here a bottle of Teacher's Highland Cream runs about $29.30 Aust.
As a bottle of single malt will usually last me about a month which means that our scotch bills are about the same.

Vince, you must be more self-disciplined than me I'm not one of those people who can spread out a nice treat. I can't stop at one piece of chocolate - gotta eat more!! (not that I eat chocolate, given that up).

Seriously - Over the past 30 years I have sampled quite a few scotches, both blended and single malt, and have favorites in both categories. On the whole, I do favor the single malts a little more. I am quite sure that a true scotch snob would find my preferences quite plebeian.
I choose my scotch the same way I choose my wines (I don't need no stinkin rules) I drink what I like.
Precisely. Drink what you like. I think the single malts are a little smoother on the palate, but I'll drink virtually anything anyone buys for me. Don't disregard Irish malts - Bushmills do a nice selection. My favourite.

I knew I was right when I had you pegged as a discerning man.
Bushmills is my favourite whiskey, as well.

Bushmills and I have a miserable relationship the night of our socializing and the morning after. Mr. Jameson and i get along fine today, tonight and, most importantly, tommorrow.
I am pleased to hear that I am not the only kilter who has forsaken the delicious (and expensive) scotch whiskeys (single malt and blends) for the lighter, smoother Irish blends. So they can't weave a good tartan. They make a damn fine smooth and easy drinkin' whiskey.
Any reccomendations for Canadian whiskey?
And you may ask yourself, Well how did I get here?

I stopped looking for a better drink when I found Bushmills.
And I think the Irish National Tartan is one of the most beautiful tartans in the world!

Mr Erudite sir!
Did you know that Bushmills and Jamesons are virtually the same! They are distilled side by side in the Bushmills distillery in Northern Ireland.
I'm very fortunate to have done the tour and sampled the beverages at the end. All for free! (Press trip - just as well my wife was driving)
I was the Guinea Pig for the taste testing competition at the end of the tour and I couldn't distinguish the Jamesons from the Bushmills!! I guessed right, but it was hard.
The worst sample was Jack Daniels bourbon. How do you guys drink that stuff???

I'm more of a scotch man as well, but I do enjoy Jameson's Irish whisky (Bushmills has been represented enough here today).
As for Canadian whisky there is only one clear choice....Crown Royal.

Al., that tells me so much about you!! Only joking, my friend.
Actually, it reminds me that I believe I owe you one from our Edinburgh meeting. Please remind me next time as I have an unfortunate tendency to forget things like that!!!!!

Colin is so right. Crown Royal is quite enjoyable!
My vote for scotch whisky goes for Cragganmore.
