Re: Autumn
It's so beautiful there, isn't it, Robert? You and Lady Chrystal are so lucky to see such gorgeous scenery every day!

Re: Autumn
Minor thread hijack. How are the fall colours up in ME this year, havent quite started to change here, but looking to be a dull year.
A couple of weeks late, and I thought a bit dull as well. Good yellows, but that was about it.
BTY: what is your favorite apple for eating?
Mine is a local honey crisp, but I love Gala and Fuji as well.

Re: Autumn
Wonderful Robert!
And what a relief this beautiful autumn has been after (at least here) the revolting summer!
Cheers!

Re: Autumn
When I was young we had an orchard of 120 Crispin apple trees, with a couple of plum trees and a couple of pears - Victoria and Conference, a row of gooseberry bushes too.
Whenever I can find Crispins I have to buy them, but they don't seem to taste quite the same.
One of the plum trees was hit by lightening - that was amazing. It split the trunk and there were cooked plums all on the ground, and some still on the tree, with the stones cracked inside the fruits. Next year the tree blossomed, greened and fruited as though nothing had happened.
The trees I have are 'golden delicious' - I bought them to rescue them from the supermarket, they were the only two trying to grow the rest looked dead. Their apples are not like those in the shops. They are actually golden when ripe.

Just as Woodsheal says, my apple tree and black walnut tree went crazy this year.In addition to pies and applesauce, I borrowed a cider press and put away a bunch of cider. Five gallons of it are in my beer fermenter right now. The bubbling just stopped, so I'll bottle it this weekend.

Re: Autumn
Opening a Possman's Apfelwein and going in to pluck "Wild Mountain Thyme" on guitar in Lady and Robert's honour, even though metro Chicago is not particularly wild and flat as a table and has no thyme growing, here.
Enjoy!
