Sorry to hear about your bishop. I hope the laryngitis clears up quickly. The first few times that I wore my kilt to church I got nothing but compliments and the one time that I wore pants everyone asked me where my kilt was.

Looking good! The jacket seems a tad long, though.

I know it's to long but the other coat I have is tails for when I do recitals and it's way too formal although would have looked beter. Hopefully soon I can get a good proper suit jacket.
I should also explain a bishop in the LDS church is more like a Priest in other faiths. A leader of a local congregation of about 500 people. When I first came on this sight my son wore his to church and was told in no uncertain terms it wasn't appropriate attire and he wouldn't be allowed to do any of his church duties if he did. That's why I haven't worn mine yet to support him until I figured the fireside was a good opportunity to do it. He also joined me in being kilted that night and he looks way better than I do.
This is by way of explanation as that past incident got discussed until it got heated and needed to be closed. I only mention it because I didn't want people to think it was catholic, Anglican or the other churches which have bishops. Most people don't know the LDS use that term for a congregational leader.

It's by no means a perfect solution and, no doubt, the discriminating types on the forum will still comment but experience has taught me that when wearing a "saxon" jacket with a kilt, it's a tad better to find one that still gives you the sleeve length but feels a size too small and then don't button it. Several raids on thrift stores have netted me tweed jackets of varying fit, bought with the intention of converting them to kilt jackets and some of them are snug enough and short enough that they sort of work as kilt jackets. It's not the perfect solution but when you're the only kilty in the room...it gives the illusion pretty well. Look for the ones where the end of the sleeve is closest to the hem of the jacket...the closer/shorter, the better...and, as I say, don't button it...maybe a vest...that seems to help, too.

...and before the castigation (there's that word again!) starts...this is an emergency measure only! It's like patching your radiator hose with duct tape until you can get to a parts store and get a new hose!

I grew up in the RC Church in the late 50's/early s60's...it took Vatican Council II to get to the point where they let women wear slacks to church...before that it was dress or skirt and head covered...hat or chapel veil. It was considered incredibly bad form for men to show up without a necktie.

Granted that what is in your heart is more important to the Lord than what is on your back...but I've lived through some interesting times.

I definitely think you should!! I wouldnt think twice about seeing a man in a kilt on Christmas at church, other thank thinking it was really awesome. Dont be shy! Get down with your bad kilted self and do it
