Hunting, fishing, drawing, and music occupied my every moment. Cares I knew not, and cared naught about them.

Might wish to post pictures as your garb evolves and you collect your bits and pieces - you'll get plenty of advice here, and most of it both accurate and useful.

It would probably be a good idea to get clearance to wear the kilt from your principal before you show up at the door that night and get turned away for not being dressed "properly". It happens.

Re: kilt to prom
Get the go-ahead to wear the kilt to prom and then Google "kilt rental". There are any number of online establishments who will rent just the jacket you need.

Re: kilt to prom
I congratulate you on your choice of a kilt for Prom attire. However, speaking as a retired high school principal, it would be the proper thing to let your principal know of your choice. I would be very surprised if you were denied such dress, but, principals are funny--they don't like surprises. Stop by and have a chat with him and I'm sure you'll be fine.
Over the years, I had to deal with many dress issues for Prom attendees and I tell you, someone asking to wear a kilt would be the very least of the issues that can come up.

...or at least your date. I'm a retired principal from the elementary system. We wouldn't say a word up here in Canada. I'd be saddened if they did there.

You're a brave lad. If you get any flack maybe your clan organization can help convince the opponents that diversity is a requirement for federal funding...
Emailing you a collection of kilted for prom pics I've accumulated. Hope it helps some.
