My first attempt at the X-Kilt

So here are a couple of pics from my newly finished (you can still see the markings on the fabric) X-Kilt. I promise to post more pics of me wearing it once I get my lady to take some pics for me. :-)

This is the first kilt that I've made using box pleats, and I must say that it took a little bit more time, in all, compared to knife pleats, but I love the way it looks! I also decided to not add any pockets, as I always wear some sort of sporran anyway, so it would be a bit redundant in my case. And I also wasn't too concerned about the stitches showing on the front where I sewed the velcro on the over apron because I also always wear a belt. I had decided to use the velcro method because I've made utility kilts in the past with snaps, and let's just say that my middle region likes to grow from time to time and it just seems a lot easier and more versatile to have the velcro instead of the snaps.

Also, my waist and my rump measures the same at around 42" so I did not bother to taper the fell at all and it fits perfectly all around. I made the under apron at full width for my front, and the over apron at 10" with a slight A-shaping.

All in all, with this great greenish bottomweight material that I snagged from Walmart on the sale rack (10 yards for $1.50 a yard!) I'm rather pleased and have enough to make two kilts for just around $10.00!

The manual explaining the pleating method was great, as I just supplemented my usual method with the one given there, and it was easy enough to figure in the proper measurements. Now I'm off to do a thrift store jacket conversion.

I see that the photos are kinda tiny, but I can only link to them from my user album here (they are a bit bigger in the album within my profile).

Not So hard. Hehe. It just took a little longer than expected, I guess, being my first attempt at those style pleats. But then again, I try not to start something that I cannot finish all at once. I love the style of it, though!

Re: My first attempt at the X-Kilt

Ok, finally a couple of shots of me wearing the X-kilt. :-)

This is after a day of running around in it, and I'm wearing almost everything made by myself (belt, sporran, kilt). I love the way this kilt wears, with the box pleats, and have to give a big thanks again for the instructions on here for the pleating and such.

Once again, the pictures in my profile album are much bigger than these.
