As Matt says, any reputable kilt maker can supply Dalgliesh fabrics. Although we now own the mill after rescuing it last year, D.C. Dalgliesh will continue to supply any trade customer. But we did introduce a more rigorous 'trade only' rule, to protect the supply chain, as is normal in most manufacturing industries.

Also, can I point out that our retail operation is now named Scotweb Tartan Mill. Tartan Web is another company entirely.

Sorry about the Tartan Web mistake, I knew of course it was Tartan Mill. (corrected on my original post now)

The reason I mentioned about the trade only from Dalgleish was that I wasn't sure if the OP was keen on sourcing the tartan himself, but of course any good kilt maker will be happy to work with Dalgleish.

I own, and wear frequently, kilts made from both Dalgliesh heavy weight cloth as well as Lochcarron heavy weight cloth. I like them both, and honestly have not noticed any discernible difference in how they wear, or how often I have to re-press the kilt or iron out wrinkles (which is hardly ever in both cases).

Sorry to hear you have not found this to be true in your own kilt.

    Odd,
I've only worn my custom weave a few times, but much sitting was involved (both car, meeting, and bar) and I didn't notice any creasing at all.

Bad batch on your part, maybe? Or was it a "caught in the rain" situation?

I adore Strome tartan too - it is such a hearty tartan that can really take a beating. I know what you mean in regards to Dalgliesh, as one of my kilts made of Dalgliesh tartabn does the same exact thing in which you speak of, John, it tends to crease quite easily in some spots, especially around the area my sporran is worn. Other kilts that I own, which are made of Lochcarron Strome, 16oz tartan, have never done this. I love the look, feel, the traditional/true selvage, and the tight weave of D.C. Dalgliesh, and their colours are superb, but I am rather fond of my Lochcarron Strome as well, which is no wonder why Lochcarron and D.C. Dalgliesh are my tartan mills of choice...bar none!

    Cheers,

Can anyone tell me if this is a good mill or not? Thank you.
I just recieved a hand sewn kilt from D.C. Dalgliesh. You can see pictures if thier weaving and construction in the Celtic Croft area.
