Black Watch Tartan Economy (wool) Kiltl
I had the need to obtain a cheap Black Watch kilt. I went through all the vendor sites listed on the this forum, as well as many others that are out there on the web. It was fortuitous that there has been much recent discussion on this forum regarding the merits of Stillwaters Economy wool model.
Firstly, there is the service, I ordered on 10 August, received it today 20 August, 10 days in total, 4 of which are weekends, so that's 6 days to get here, to Australia. Bloody marvellous that is.
Secondly, for 86.00, I don't know how Jerry does it. Ok it's not a tank and does not have stabliser etc but that is made quite clear when you sign up. It is top stitched and appears well made. Pleats are even and aprons are tapered correctly, selvedge is straight and the buckles and straps are very servicable. The fabric has a rougher hand than all other tartans I have experienced but, so what. It was reported in a post on this forum that Jerry confirmed that the material was 16oz. It is heavier than my 13oz tartans but appears a smidge less than my 16oz ones. In the past I have had a What Price Glory, Black Watch kilt which reputedly have 22oz tartan and are a 8 yard kilt. Both Stillwaters and WPG are made in Pakistan. In my opinion the quality of the tartan material of Stillwaters offerings is far superior to that of WPG (So one of Jerry's 8 yarders would be great)
For any person wanting an entry level wool kilt and are not worried about what tartan they get, then get onto this deal. (Please bear in mind they are a 24" drop and may have to be taken up if you are close to the ground like I am)
Thanks Jerry and the staff at Stillwater Kilts, great deal, super service
And the heading should read Wool not Woo

I have one of Stillwater acrylic Black Watch and am very happy with the quality for the price and the service is always out standing. It does seem the Jerry has made some improvements to his time warp delivery system to get it to Australia in 10 days.

Downunder ,
I second everything you have said . I ordered this kilt from Stillwaters and love it . As you say , it's not a tank but I didn't expect it to be that . However , it's pretty darn good for $ 86 .
I first seen " brewerpaul's " thread and review of this kilt and decided to give it a go . I own two tanks and one PV and this kilt was a pleasant surprise when I got it , especially given that it was only $ 86 , wool , pleated to the stripe . It's not exactly the Black Watch sett but that's not a problem . I was greatly surprised by the quality for the price .
You are correct , this is a great deal for someone who is just starting into kilting and a great deal for those of us who want a substitute for wearing our tanks . As a matter of fact , I ordered a second one for a friend .
For everyone reading this post , please know that Stillwtares Kilts is only offering this kilt in limited supplies , i.e. sizes and qauntities . You may not find your size , so don't get upset , it's not one of their standard items . If you can find your size , this one is a sweet deal .

woo v. , To seek the affection of with intent to romance. To seek to achieve;
How many of us have tried "seek the affection of" that perfect kilt. Haven't we all "intent[ed] to romance" a bit of wool tartan to become our one and only kilt. We are always "seek[ing] to achieve" that perfect joining of pleats and cloth for that perfect swish.

I had wondered about that. It's hard to tell in the photo of the wool economy, but the picture of the wool heavyweight is definitely not Black Watch.
