    Measurements question

While I understand the measurements section on USA Kilts website, I do have a question.

I am very active during the summer and not so during the winter. My waist size historically changes with the seasons, to where I wear 42's by late summer and then 44's by spring. With jeans, that's not a problem - they're 20 bucks/pair. Kilts are a bit pricier. Plus I don't like any clothing that is so tight as to be uncomfortable.

I hope to order a kilt from USA Kilts by early October. Does that mean it won't fit by the end of winter?

Not to worry. Over time I may order more than one kilt. But will I need one for 42 and one for 44?

    Thank you.

I can't answer the question for you, but I bet that USAKilts can. Call them and ask; they're good folks and will try to help.

Frank, be sure to measure and don't go by your pants size. I personally was shocked to see the difference. It would have been a big mistake to go by my pants size.

Thank you Holcombe. I have a month to wait on a reply, as I will not have the cash till then. I do not want to call and take their time up when they may be busy getting a kilt out for one of our many friends. And yes, I hear from a number of people that they are good folks. I look forward to doing business with them, as modest as it may be.

The inexpensive kilt I bought off the racks at the local Scottish games here a week or so ago fits loose, but with adjustment (all the way!), are fine. There is no question they will then fit come spring. That is what I hope for with any new kilt I get, especially one that is custom made.

    Enjoy your day sir.

I recently asked Rocky at USA Kilts a similar question. The answer was that the waist measurement on their kilts is to the center hole of the strap which gives about 1 1/2 inches of leeway in either direction.

Cecil, I am aware of that, and will do exact measurements as the USA Kilts order form directs when the time comes, in about a month. The off-the-shelf kilt I bought did end up being a size 44, and was sufficiently loose as noted above in my reply to Holcombe. Right now I am a 42 waist but regress to 44 by winter's end, and have been doing that for many years. I'm hoping a custom kilt will absorb that difference.

    Thank you sir.

If you're going to be ordering a CASUAL Kilt (with velcro) and fluctuate between a 42 and a 44 depending on season, I'd suggest getting a 43. That way, you'll be fine to go up a few inches or down a few inches.

Actually I'm looking at the semi-traditional one you sell Rocky. I'm thinking that's the best for all-around use, but then again, I wonder if the 5 yard wool would be better. I should be able to afford the semi-trad in a month, but would be a wee bit short for the 5 yard wool. I'd like to have a better looking kilt for the holidays, and plan on the extra 35 bucks for rush delivery no matter what I get. Then next summer or early fall maybe I'll be getting an 8 yard kilt.

    Thank you sir!

a 43" waist would fit roughly up to 44.5 or down to 41.5.

You da man ( as my sons would say). Thank you sir! That solves that problem. Now onto acquiring the necessary funds...
