Combating flash fraying

After three days of festivals my HoE wool flashes are beginning to fray. Upon inspection there does not appear to be anything inhibiting this process. I was considering applying fray check on the underside. I am curious what others do about this.

Fray Check would probably work well. For mine... I don't worry about it. I just let them "be as they will".

I also thought about sewing a line about ¼ inches from the end so they could fray a little but not too much. My mom use to do this to my cutoffs. I had very neat fringe on my cutoffs.

I do the same, yet sometimes I will simply trim the frayed edges with a pair of very sharp, Singer scissors. Works every time, but unfortunately, does not completely stop the fraying from happening again. Many Highlanders in Scotland, especially Chiefs, simply allow their flashes to fray and pay no mind to it. This is evident with my own Chief, as well as with many others. It's just "how it's done."

Kinda wish MY mom would have done that! I might have started wearing kilts a whole lot sooner!
