We have just passed a law.
It is now illegal to wear an Argyle Jacket anywhere but in Argyle, Scotland.
You may also not wear a Prince Charlie Coatee unless your name is Charles Edward Stewart.
Please turn in all your, now, illegal jackets to me.

There might be a sales push "somewhere" in Canada with jackets with Montreal cuffs, Sitting Bull coatees and Moosejaw bonnets.

When Argyll Jackets are outlawed, only outlaws will wear Argyll Jackets.

My new jacket from EBay has, as you see, two buttons and only one small button on each cuff. It is a Dark Green wool jacket from Moss Brothers ex hire and cost 20 GBP. Because I wear a Heritage of Wales kilt I have changed the buttons to matt gold buttons with a dragons head.
What style is this ??

£20 you say. That is somewhat of a bargain. It must be the rare and fabled Merthyr Tydfil Jacket.

Very informative and timely (for me) post, Steve. Thanks.
I am roughly half done sewing a new kilt jacket from a modified sport coat pattern, and it is decision time for cuff style and number of front buttons.
I opted for fairly high lapels, wanting to give a respectful nod to the ghillie coat tradition. I will likely go with Argyll cuffs and three-button front.
