I'll meet you for that pint in Sterling in 2014. Something will happen, at the very least the Bannockburn 700 celebration.
I get the feeling there will be a few more events.
And the 4-5 weeks paid vacation every year makes me want to MOVE to Scotland!!!

I get three weeks paid vacation here, 3 weeks paid sick leave, 5 personal days, and 13 holidays. In fact, I think in a couple more years I start getting 4 weeks vacation... I'm staying here!
We do intend to go to Scotland though, and probably in 2014, although the decision is still up in the air.

Dont you have to be sick to have sick leave? I never understood people counting that in their rights. I'd rather not be sick and not need sick leave.

Sorry BCAC. Of course you need to be sick to take sick leave. All I was doing is noting benefits I get where I work. I rarely use sick leave, as any left when I retire converts to retirement benefits. I also get great retirement benefits, something that used to be normal in the states, but is much less so nowadays.
Enjoy your day sir!

I'm sorry Frank, I wasn't "getting at you". We just have a different system that allows you to be looked after if you are sick, but doesn't convert into anything if you don't use it. We just count ourselves lucky not to be sick. Everyone has to go with the system that's in place for them but in my opinion your system would seem to entice people that are "slightly" sick to come to work anyway and to try and save their "sick leave" to eventually convert into retirement benefits. Then again, our system entices people to stay at home for the slightest problem. That seems to be a national trait over here anyway. People will (for example) accidently bang their knee against their desk, go to see the doctor, and get a few days off whereas I bang my knee, say "ouch" and carry on working. It takes all sorts, eh?
Edited to apologize for taking the thread so far "off topic".

No problem. Let's get this back on topic! Hmm, Scotland in 2014? I'd like to do that because the little woman and I celebrate our 40th anniversary in late June. I think it would be very romantic to do it in bonny Scotland! (Gathering or no)

Yes indeed. Scotland in 2014? Certainly. I don't need any special reason like a "gathering" to go there. I try to go back home at least once a year and I'm waiting with impatience for my daughter to be installed and have less need for her dad or for my retirement (whichever comes first) to be able to go back home for the rest of my life!

If I understand this article correctly, the clan "Gathering 2014" will not be an element of the Homecoming 2014 events.
